Give Peace A Chance

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

On this day, back in 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono took to a bed in Montreal to petition the world for Peace. They crafted a song and recorded it there with the help of a few equally optimistic friends and it has since become an anthem for what is desired by almost every living thing on the planet - and yet remains so elusive due to the ignorance and machinations of a few.

I’m in the midst of some changes here which will (hopefully) affect the content of this blog. It’s devolved every once and while into acid rants against any perverse stupidity that stands between humanity and the common good. Sometimes it’s just a pretty collection of neat videos and at other times it is (hopefully) an aggregation of inspiring ideas.

I’m not sure what it will turn into as I change a few things around here - more than just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, I assure you - but it will still be a place for the sticky brain morsels of Robbo to find purchase.

In the meantime - sing-along with John.

The only sure thing about this world is that things change. And I don’t think Gandhi meant for us to impersonate nickels and dimes when he said: Be the change you seek in the world.”

Cheers.

John Lennon

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

I had meant to post about this yesterday but as a man once said: “Life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans.”

It’s hard to believe that it was 29 years ago when John Lennon died and left us a legacy of music, art and the relentless quest for peace.

John Lennon

Too many people engage in building saints and martyrs from the remains of those who have gone before us, providing examples of what it means to be a decent caring human being who refuses to profit from the suffering of others. Lennon was no saint - he was just a man - but a damned fine one and we should all be so lucky as to find a part of who he was, and what he believed in, within ourselves.

Cheers.

The Kisses, The Kisses

I watched Giuseppe Tornatore’s Cinema Paradiso - again - with my wife and son tonight. I love that film and it never fails to reduce me to tears at the very end.

This film is a love letter to cinema and to the passions which drive our lives.

If you haven’t yet seen the film don’t play this video. Go find the movie and watch it. If you have seen the film - this is the very end sequence - enjoy.

Cheers.
