Once I got my Mac SE I concluded that most programming was going to be well beyond the capacity of my pinhead. Then I discovered HyperCard and we went all nuts on that and made our Ali Baa Baa interactive storybook. But things got complicated again and I decided it was easier to just play with puppets for a while. Then I discovered HTML and the web. Yeehaw! Visceral control over the screen once more! Since then I've dabbled in Flash (which I suck at) and PHP (which I can barely get through but cool shit like Wordpress helps me pretend I know what I'm doing. It's always something - some next level - that puts nifty tools back in the hands of the creative nut bars. Right now? Yeah - working on an iPhone app. We'll see how that goes.

In the meantime, Henry wants to start making his own games so I'm hoping the Gamemaker folks get their shit together for a Mac version soon.

Cheers

Cool stuff... and thanks for reminding me of the Apple 2e.

That was the first computer they had at my school. Anyone remember Logo? It was designed to teach programming and consisted of a little triangular "turtle" that drew a line behind it wherever it went. Type in directions like forward 50 right 90 forward 50, and it would draw. I actually thought that was how you had to draw anything on a computer!

Then I discovered a 2e drawing program (probably Dazzle Draw) that did all the programing for you and just let you draw stuff; one verison even did simple tweening! It took me about 2 minutes of using that program to realize I was going to be an avid computer user, but not a computer programmer. Although I did use Basic on my TI-99 to create random and preferably profane poetry.
