Anthropology Of YouTube
Mike Wesch, an assistant professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University has posted this great video presentation of a talk he gave at the Library of Congress wherein he examines the history, growth and uses of YouTube and concludes that 88% of the content there is original.
Suck that, Viacom.
It runs a tad over 55 minutes - worth every minute of it - and the last 15 minutes are not to be missed.
Wesch has other videos that are equally compelling and informative and can be found on his YouTube page or you can visit their MediatedCultures website.
Here’s the video Wesch references in the beginning of the above talk: Web 2.0 The Machine Is Us/ing Us. Enjoy.
.
Cheers.
