RIAA and MPAA Fund Anti-Piracy Politicians
It’s not a surprise when industry associations lobby and pay for the attention and services of elected representatives. Happens all the time. It’s just good to know about it and let others know. Never take a politicians words or actions at face value.
This is part of what’s going on in the U.S.
TorrentFreak has an article on which representatives in the U.S. have been taking money from the RIAA, the MPAA and other PAC (soft money) groups that support the distortion of copyright law to favour large media corporations.
Also noteworthy is an earlier TorrentFreak article on the legal rogering TorrentSpy is currently enduring. You may remember an earlier post of mine on this. Seems the courts have made an unprecedented move by ordering TorrentSpy to collect and submit data on its users … basically to spy on its users for the MPAA. WTF?
An attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation referred to the order to demand a defendant log visitor activity and then hand over the information to the plaintiff as “unprecedented.” He continued “In general, a defendant is not required to create new records to hand over in discovery. We shouldn’t let Web site logging policies be set by litigation”
It’s just as dumb as 2600. I promised to write about that and I will but I really want to get some more coffee first.
And in Canada we have the lovely and charming Bev Oda dancing in the same set of shoes left for her by Sarmite Bulte.
One of these days we can kick these greedy arse wipes down the stairs and breathe a sigh of relief. One of these days.
Cheers.
